Kitchen Tools
Frying pan or small saucepan
Whisk or spoon
Ingredients
35 g / 1.5 oz brown sugar
35 g / 1.5 oz fried tomato sauce (or thick passata)
25 ml / 1 fl oz white vinegar
3 g cornstarch (about 1 teaspoon)
5 drops sriracha (adjust to taste)
40 ml / 1.4 fl oz cold water (for dissolving cornstarch)
Instructions
Combine the base: In a frying pan or small saucepan over medium heat, combine the fried tomato sauce, brown sugar, and white vinegar. Stir well until the sugar is fully dissolved.
Prepare the thickener: In a separate small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in the cold water.
Add spice and thickness: Once the sugar in the pan has dissolved, stir in the sriracha and the cornstarch mixture.
Stir until thickened: Continue stirring constantly for 30–60 seconds, or until the sauce thickens enough to leave a visible streak at the bottom of the pan when stirred.
Remove from heat: Let the sauce cool slightly before using or storing.
