A Classic, Homemade Spread That’s Simple and Satisfying
A Classic, Homemade Spread That’s Simple and Satisfying

There’s nothing quite like homemade peanut butter—warm, nutty, and impossibly creamy with a touch of crunch. Making it yourself means you control the texture, the flavour, and the quality. It’s fresh, free from additives, and full of heart-healthy fats and plant-based protein.

Whether you enjoy it on toast, in smoothies, or by the spoonful, this homemade version is a pantry essential you'll love making again and again.

Kitchen Tools

  • Oven

  • Baking sheet

  • Mixing bowls

  • Hand blender or high-powered food processor

Ingredients

  • 1 kilogram / 2.2 lbs raw peanuts (unsalted)

Instructions

  1. Roast the peanuts: Preheat your oven to 180°C / 350°F. Spread the peanuts in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 10–15 minutes, or until golden and fragrant. Shake the pan halfway through for even toasting.

  2. Cool slightly: Transfer the peanuts to a bowl and let them cool for a few minutes.

  3. Prepare the crunchy bits: Set aside 1 cup of the roasted peanuts. Lightly crush or pulse them in a food processor until you get small pieces—these will give your peanut butter that classic crunchy texture. Set aside.

  4. Blend the rest: Add the remaining peanuts to your hand blender or food processor. Blend at high speed for about 6 minutes, stopping to scrape down the sides occasionally. It will first become crumbly, then pasty, and finally transform into a smooth, creamy butter as the natural oils are released.

  5. Mix in the crunch: Transfer the creamy peanut butter to a bowl. Stir in the chopped peanuts until evenly combined.

  6. Store and enjoy: Spoon into a clean jar or airtight container. Let cool to room temperature before sealing. Refrigerate to keep it fresh.

Serving Ideas

  • Spread on toast with banana or jam

  • Blend into smoothies or shakes

  • Use as a base for satay sauce or dressings

  • Dip with apple slices or celery sticks

Storage

Keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. Stir before each use if separation occurs.

This homemade peanut butter is not only satisfying and versatile—it’s a joyful return to basics. Just one ingredient and a bit of blending gives you something better than store-bought, every single time.
