A Naturally Sweet, All-Purpose Syrup Made with Just One Ingredient

This Date Syrup is your go-to natural sweetener—rich, thick, and packed with the deep caramel-like flavour of whole dates. Perfect for drizzling over pancakes, stirring into yogurt, or sweetening smoothies, it’s a healthier alternative to refined sugar with the added benefit of fibre and minerals.

Simple, wholesome, and incredibly versatile, this syrup brings the natural goodness of dates into your everyday recipes.

Kitchen Tools

  • Pot

  • Mixing bowl

  • Hand blender or food processor

Ingredients

  • 12 dehydrated dates, pitted

  • 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) boiling water (enough to cover the dates)

Instructions

  1. Boil the water: Bring 1 1/2 cups of water to a boil in a small pot.

  2. Soak the dates: Place the pitted dates in a bowl and pour just enough of the hot water over them to cover completely. Let them soak for 15–20 minutes to soften.

  3. Blend until smooth: Transfer the soaked dates to a blender or use a hand blender in the same bowl. Blend until you achieve a smooth, syrup-like consistency. Add a little of the soaking water as needed to adjust the thickness.

  4. Store and chill: Pour the syrup into a clean jar or bottle with a lid. Refrigerate before use.

Serving Ideas

  • Drizzle over pancakes, waffles, or toast

  • Stir into tea, coffee, or smoothies

  • Use as a sweetener in baking or sauces

  • Add to overnight oats or yogurt bowls

Storage

Keep refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 1 week. Shake or stir before each use.

This Date Syrup is proof that sometimes the simplest ingredients create the most delicious results—a naturally sweet staple to always have on hand.
