Carob lovers, this one’s for you! This Creamy Carob Banana Spread is a delicious, no-added-sugar option for anyone craving a chocolatey flavour with a natural twist. Carob powder brings gentle sweetness and a deep, earthy taste, while banana, chia, flax, and nuts add creaminess, texture, and a load of nutrients. The result? A wholesome, fiber-packed spread or snack that’s perfect on toast, in a bowl, or straight off the spoon.

This recipe is ideal for busy mornings or guilt-free evening cravings—and it’s 100% plant-based.


Kitchen Tools

  • Hand blender or food processor

  • Small bowl for soaking


Ingredients

  • 200 ml / 7 fl oz plant-based milk (almond, oat, or soy work well)

  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds

  • 1 tablespoon carob powder

  • 1/2 ripe banana

  • 1/2 cup mixed nuts (e.g., walnuts, cashews, or almonds), roughly chopped

  • 1 teaspoon ground flax seeds


Instructions

  1. Grind the seeds: In a grinder or using a mortar and pestle, grind the flax and chia seeds into a fine powder. This step helps with better digestion and a smoother texture.

  2. Mix the base: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground chia and flax with the carob powder and plant-based milk. Stir well to avoid lumps.

  3. Let it rest: Allow the mixture to sit for about 30 minutes at room temperature. This lets the chia seeds gel and gives the cream its characteristic thickness.

  4. Finish with banana and nuts: Mash the half banana and stir it into the mixture. Add the chopped nuts and blend everything with a hand blender until smooth and creamy. For a chunkier texture, pulse lightly.
